Sn 15 158751

The Old Town canoe with the serial number 158751 is a 15 foot AA (top) grade 50 pound model canoe that was completed from November 1952 to April 1953. It has a keel (no mention of shoe keel) and a floor rack, and was originally dark green. It was shipped to Lakeland, Florida on April 15, 1953. The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you and anyone else reading this will join or renew membership in the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Check things such as the species of wood trim-- it should be mahogany-- and the lines of the canoe itself--- it should look like the fifty pounder, should have sheet-cane seats and the classic "newer" version of the Old Town short deck... and it should be reasonable that your canoe was shipped to a college in Florida. Shoe keels are not common on American-made canoes.

Post pictures if you need more help figuring out your canoe.

Kathy

Thanks for your quick reply!

The information sounds just like my boat. The short decks made me think it wasn't an Old Town. You certainly are providing a wonderful service.
