Serial number search

I have recently acquired a 16 ft Old Town canoe, and after some scraping, the numbers on both front and rear stem seem to be "151116 16". Can I ask you to please check for any historical information you may have on this canoe?

Thank you very much, Paul

The Old Town canoe with serial number 151116 is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Yankee model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, and a keel. It was built between May and November, 1948. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped on December 3rd, 1944 to New Braunfels, Texas. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Please attach some pictures. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Hello Benson,

Thank you very much for your quick reply! The information matches the canoe well. Given that I purchased it from someone in the Fort Worth, TX area, an original delivery to New Braunfels makes good sense.

Again, thank you very much! Paul
