Serial Number Request

I have a sixteen foot old town with the serial number 147427. I was also wondering, it has original canvas and is in fairly good shape, what is a ballpark figure for the worth of a canoe like that

Brian,

Old Town number 147427 was assigned to a 17' HW model in CS (Common Sense) grade It had a keel installed and was painted with design #37. It was shipped on March 17, 1947 to Thief River Falls, MN. A subsequent contact with Old Town showed it to be owned by someone in International Falls, MN in 1972. The build record and design 37 are attached.

It it impossible to give an accurate, sight unseen estimate of value. For information on the worth of the canoe see the following discussion http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?t=57

Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. Please join WCHA or make a tax deductable contribution so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join. A 10 minute video on WCHA is viewable at http://www.wcha.org/wcha_video.php. If you are already a WCHA member, THANK YOU!

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
