rushton paint colors and gerrish canvas

i was just reading a book,( the way of the woods by edward breck) and it has alot of info on canoes and there is a section stating that if you want paint order a can of canoe enamel made by edw. smith and co. for mr. rushton. it also talks about gerrish being the originator of the canvas covered canoe. the publishing date is 1908 and he states it was approx. 30 years ago gerrish started covering the canoes in canvas
