Old Town Colors - GS Green?

Old Town Bellingham

Curious about Wooden Canoes
The end of the restoration of my Old Town Guide Canoe, serial #140826, is in sight and I think I'd like to return the canoe to its original color. The build sheet lists the grade as "GS" (Guide Special, I believe) and the original color as "GS Green."

The restoration professional I'm working with here in Washington , Eric Harman (www.harmancanoe.com) - outstanding work, btw!!) - likes the Epifanes yacht enamel paints and I can see why - the paint flows out beautifully and has a wonderful gloss - his canoes are beautiful.

Anyone have any idea what the original Old Town GS Green looked like and whether it was anything like the Epifanes colors 72 (dark green) or 65 (deep green) (see http://www.epifanes.com/home.htm)?

My general advice in these situations is to pick a green that you like because no one is ever likely to be able to prove that it is not the original shade. The original GS green was probably closer to Epifanes color 62 or 72 than 65 if I had to guess.

Epifanes #65 Deep Green wins out

I decided to give the Epifanes #65 Deep Green a try and think I'll be well pleased. You be the judge.

Gimme green

WOW....great green, and I am not surprised. I did not indicate in another post that the Epifanes paints I have used could be quite easily blended for custom colors. I did this on an early Kingsbury and added gold leafing. It is a two tone and one of my best jobs, I think. Great work !! Dave
