Rib end nail question

Curious about Wooden Canoes
I am restoring a 1933 Penn Yann Hunter canoe. During disassembly, I've found that many of the original nails (possibly galvanized?) fastening the rib ends to the inwale are disintegrating. So I'm looking for some opinions- should ALL of these nails be replaced, & with what type?

I found exactly the same thing while working on my 1936 Old Town. The nails appear to me to be galvanized and rather fine gauge. Given that they are the only connection between the rails and the rest of the canoe, I have replaced the majority with bronze ring nails. I just push into the rib a bit to grab the heads with duck bill pliers and pull them straight out...they come out startlingly easily! I feel much better with the heavier ring nails in place. I got them from Rollin Thurlow.
