Removing old varnish from sides of ribs.

Anyone know an easy way of removing the old varnish from the sides of the ribs? Ive been using varnish stripper and a small scraper but I was wondering if anyone had an easier way?

Try a "Scotch Brite" pad, being careful to be pretty gentle. The varnish comes off and clogs the weave. When there is only vestigial varnish left and it dries out, us a sponge sanding block which are available for two for dollar at the "Dollar" store. Finish sand with 220 grit sandpaper.
