Enthusiastic about Wooden Canoes
Looking for info on OT 24577 76 I think the 76 must be 16 I don't know if the 77 is right as well. It apears to have a sailing rig setup.

Thanks

Vern: The Old Town canoe with serial number 24577 comes back to a 17 foot long, CS grade HW (Heavy Water) model with a keel. It was built between December, 1912 and July, 1915. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It appears to have been shipped on July 5, 1916 to Howe Brook, Maine. A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Vern: Check both stems for that number again. Your image clearly shows a floor rack and bow sail rig seat, while both could have been added later, neither are mentioned in the build record. - Al

Maybe 124577

I checked with the seller and it appears to be 124577.
Thanks

Seems More Likely...

This one appears to be your canoe...
Old Town 124577 is a 16 foot AA grade Otca with open mahogany gunwales, mahogany seats, thwarts, and decks... fitted with a keel, floor rack, mast seat and step and a full length bang plate and painted dark green before being shipped off to Travelers Insurance Company in [can't read it] New Hampshire July 14 (?) 1938.

The scan is attached... if you can't decipher it, maybe someone else has a clearer scan.
