Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hello,
I recently picked up this canoe and would like to know if anyone has access to the build sheet. I'm going to restore this diamond in the rough and would like to replace parts like for like.
Thank You,
Jeff

88375 in an Old Townturns out to be an 18" canoe I checked 88315 (a common mistake) and that turns out to be a 17 HW from 1926.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 88315 is a 17 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, HW (heavy water) model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, a keel, and outside stems. It was built between September, 1925 and April, 1926. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on April 30th, 1926 to Philadelphia, Penna. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the thumbnail image attached below. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. The build record for serial number 88375 shows an 18 foot long canoe as Al mentioned previously and as shown at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?9175 in response to your other message. How long is this canoe and can you post any pictures? Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Thanks,

Benson
