Ot 141308 18

Hi Emerson--

Old Town 141308 is an 18 foot CS grade (although not specified on the record) guide model canoe, built between December 1944 and February of 1945-- the last coat of varnish applied on Valentine's Day. It has open spruce gunwales and ash decks, thwarts, and seat frames and was fitted with a keel. There are faint marks next to outside stems and floor rack, so if your canoe has these details, that part of the scan didn't copy well... and if these details aren't part of the canoe, the marks are just smudging or fly dirt. The canoe was painted dark green with guide special green on the bottom and shipped to Albert Frost in Portland, Maine on March 5, 1945. Does the canoe have slatted seats rather than cane?

A copy of the scan of this record is attached below. Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details.
