The Old Town canoe with serial number 129560 is a 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Yankee model with open spruce gunwales and a keel. It was built between March and June, 1940. The original exterior paint color was Navy blue. It shipped on June 7th, 1940 to Westtown, Penna. A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson

Hello, Paul--

Old Town 129560 is a 16 foot CS (common sense, or middle) grade Yankee model canoe that was completed March-June of 1940. It has open spruce gunwales, a keel, and was originally navy blue. It was shipped to Westtown School in Westtown, PA, on June 7, 1940. Does that match the canoe you are looking at?

I will attach the scan when this computer lets me do that. It was hacked into and is not functioning as it used to... but I figure you want the information, and the "proof" will come in a bit!

There's a lot of interesting information on the Yankee model in our archives here--- use the "search" function above and type in "Yankee".

Are you related to Dave Davidson, by any chance?
