Anybody know anything about serial numbers for Old town Dinghys? Would like to know if this is an Old town. 10' 2'' long 50'' wide . #7602. DaveWhite 008.JPGDaveWhite 006.JPG

thanks Benson, Still trying to identify it. We went ahead with the job anyway because the owner loved it so much. Old Town did make lapstrake 10 foot dinghy's. There's a photo of one from a 1930 catalog in the book our first hunred years. Dyer made them also in the 30s. But their serial numbers didn't go that high. Just trying to find a company that made a serial # like that. Here she is today. Still waiting on the oars to come from Shaw and Tenny.006.JPG009.JPG

Canvas covered dinghies were first listed in the 1902 Robertson & Old Town Canoe Company catalog and the first lapstrake boats were listed in the 1932 Old Town catalog. I'm not aware of Old Town ever offering a lapstrake boat in a ten foot length. Many builders didn't start with serial number one and they would also frequently skip large ranges of numbers. It was not uncommon to encode model, date, and other information in the serial number. The serial number 7602 in this boat does not necessarily mean that the builder had made that many boats. It looks like a nice one regardless of who made it.
