Hi My husband and I just recently purchased an Old Town Canoe. I was wondering if I could get any kind of information on it that you would have. The haul number is XTC39565M82B.

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with hull identification number is XTC39565M82B and serial number 239565 is a 17 foot long Chipewyan Tripper model with aluminum inserts in the rails that weighed 84 pounds. It was built between September and October, 1981. The original exterior color was green. It shipped on October 2nd, 1981 to Rockville, Maryland. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join, or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Have fun with it,

Benson

Thank you for the information and document. For the length what does "in chip" mean? Would you happen to know the weight capacity? is the material royale? Thanks!

The length line has "17 Chip" which means that this is a 17 foot long Chipewyan. The 1981 catalog page at https://forums.wcha.org/attachments/43621/ lists the capacity at 1105 pounds. The hull material is Oltonar/Royalex/ABS plastic. Let me know if this doesn't answer your question.
