Old Town serial #

Curious about Wooden Canoes
I've restored an Old Town #147443. It has sponsons and a sail rig. If someone could let me know the year of manufacture I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Mark,

Old Town serial number 147443 belonged to a 16-foot AA (or top quality) OTCA that was built in 1947 and shipped to Butler, Pennsylvania. The original boat was equipped with mahogany gunwales, decks, thwarts, and seats. It had half ribs, a keel, outside stems, and sponsons. The build record says a bangplate ran the full length of the keel, and the original color was bright red. There was no mention of a sail rig, but that might have been added later.

This sounds like a good looking boat. Do you have a picture you could post?

The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you and anyone else reading this will join or renew membership in the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

If you are selling your canoe and plan to use this build record information as part of an ad, please consider giving the WCHA credit for this information on eBay or craigslist or wherever your canoe is listed.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thanks Norm

Attached is a picture. I'm still weaving the seats so they are not in the pic.

Mark,

That's a good lookin' boat. What color is the hull? Would it by any chance be "auto gray"?

Norm

Norm,
Recently we saw on - I believe - Ross's Facebook page photos of a model he has or had that was painted gray. Around the decal there was an area that was not the same gray. It was lighter. Perhaps that is the gray you seek.
Maybe Rob will chip in here and show the photos I'm referring to.
Good luck, Denis
