This canoe was once owned by my friend and fellow Scouter, Lee Hickman.
We took many a wonderful trips in this beauty.
The canoe was lost to several owners but is now back in my keep.

Wondering what the date and history of this Old Town S# 169307 is.

Welcome!

Old Town 169307 is a 15 foot 50 pound model canoe that was built in October of 1959 and shipped to Silsbee, Texas, on November 2, 1959. It originally had design #37... I'll attach that image as well as the scan of the record. Glad you found her again!

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available athttp://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

Thanks to Kathryn K and the WCHA

Kathryn,
It was so wonderful to receive your email and the neat information it contained about by Old Town.
Again my friend Lee Hickman (now deceased) acquired this canoe some time in the 1960's.
It was in my backyard for repairs and Lee and I replaced some the cedar planks and of course used brass clinch nails.
Sadly but gladly it passed to others with more resources and time to care for this beautiful canoe.....it could have been lost.
The history I think goes like this. It has not been in the water for more than 5 years.....but soon back in Village Creek.

Jerry D.
Unknown John D.
Lee H.
George A.
Troop "Lucky" 213
Gary B.
---> Bucky C.......the 6th owner or 7th ( concerned caretaker )(once owned by Concerned Chief - Lee Hickman)

Thanks for the original manifest and graphics.....it was green in 1969 and no graphic.....I will send in photos of it now.....restored by George A.
An Interesting note.....all Owned by Eagle Scouts.....(except maybe Jerry Dies....but I will research him....Silsbee, TX always had a great Scout Troop)
