Old Town dinghy

I am restoring a fiberglass, wood trimmed dinghy. Serial number 174762 10. I was hoping to get a hand with the year built? She is my new tender to a 1959 Egg Harbor. Thanks to all and does anyone know where to purchase 1 inch diameter rope so I can trim her wooden edge? Regards , Jon

The Old Town with serial number 174762 is a ten foot fiberglass dinghy with open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, and mahogany seats. It was built between July and August, 1965. The original exterior gelcoat color was white. It first shipped on August 19th, 1965 to Point Pleasant, New Jersey. It appears to have been returned and later shipped to South Weymouth, Mass. on February 22nd, 1966. A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your dinghy. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions and I will try to respond more quickly.

Benson
