Old Town build record request

I am a newcomer to this forum and would greatly appreciate a build record sheet for an Old Town wood/canvas canoe I recently acquired. I believe the serial # to be 84607 18. The second digit of the serial # is pretty hard to see but is likely a 4, and the third appears to be either a 6 or 8. It was advertised as an 18 foot 1924 Old Town Canoe.

Many thanks,

Dave

Dave,

#84607 turned out to be a 16-foot double end boat. I tried #84807, which sounds more likely. That was an 18-foot CS (or common sense) grade Charles River model built in 1924 and 1925, and shipped in 1926 to Abercrombie and Fitch in New York City. It had open spruce gunwales and birch decks, thwarts and seats. It had a keel and its original color was dark green.

The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you and anyone else reading this will join or renew membership in the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

If you are selling your canoe and plan to use this build record information as part of an ad, please consider giving the WCHA credit for this information on eBay or craigslist or wherever your canoe is listed.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Norm,

Thank you very much. I'll recheck the serial number as oneor two digits were a bit unclear.
