Old Town 187474

I am guessing it is a 50 lb from the sixties.

Listed on Craigslist in Connecticut, http://hartford.craigslist.org/boa/5809596581.html

Thinking about it...

Hm....looks like tack blooms. That boat has been in salt water. As tempting as it may be I'd be real carefull about buying it.
Take a look at Howie's 50 that is also listed on CL. Howie's does not need (anything) a bunch of tacks or a canvas.... I haven't seen it but it looks good in photo's.

Thanks for your input - my friend Jim pointed out the salt bloom also.
The salt bloom is likely a deal breaker even if I got the price down considerably.

The one you pointed out is really nice.

I'm almost done restoring a 1934 15' 50 lb.
Mine needed 8 ribs and a LOT of planking and will be solid but not as beautiful a restoration as Howie's.
Plan to have one tandem and one solo.

I am not fond of cane seats so I'm having a friend make me cherry slat seats similar to the one I recently put into my E M White Featherweight.

The White has Dacron and weighs about 35# but I will likely sell it eventually as it is too "tender" for me - and am looking for one with a flatter bottom to use as my solo.
I wish I were more flexible and could paddle it like this guy did at the Assembly.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 187474 is a 15 foot long, light weight model with a keel. It was built between November and December, 1971. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on August 25th, 1971 to Waldoboro, Maine. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
