Old Town 16’

dardog

New Member
Hello
I’m hoping to gain a little more information about a canoe I recently inherited… purchased by my father’s father. It’s an Old Town wood and canvas. The serial number is 182544 … length is 16’. I’m currently transporting it from NC to WY and will do any restoration there. Would love to know age, model, etc.
thanks!

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 182544 is a 16 foot long Otca model with a keel. It was built between January and March, 1969. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July, 20th, 1972 to Bound Brook, New Jersey. The back side of the record indicates that the warranty card was returned on September 15, 1972. Scans showing both sides of this build record are shown below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Canoes with a family connection are always extra special. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the restoration,

Benson
