The records in this box unfortunately had the single sided ones scanned before the double sided ones so they are completely out of order. Your Old Town canoe with serial number 125477 is a 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, low end HW (Heavy Water) model with thwarts in place of seats. It was built in July, 1938. The original exterior paint color was G. S. (Guides Special) green. It shipped on July 25th, 1938 to Berlin, New Hampshire. The back side of the card indicates that it was returned for repairs on April 10th, 1952. The repairs included new ribs, planking, canvas, rails, bang plate, etc. It was repainted aluminum (or sliver) and shipped back to Manchester, New Hampshire on May 20th, 1952. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with your restoration/recovery project.

Benson

Great work!

Thanks to both Al and Benson for the great, fast work! This is good stuff to know - I will enjoy bringing her back from the dead for third time! Someone had glassed it over since Old Town did the repairs in '52 - the 16's third skin!
I've got about the same woodwork to do that OT had before I bring her back into canvas - The fourth skin!

It just goes to show you just how long a wood canoe can last!
