Hello canoe enthusiasts. My brother unfortuolnately passed away and I inherited his beautiful old town canoe which I'm sure is at least 55 years old and in great condition. The serial number is 125145 17. Any way that I can get the history of this beautiful canoe and approximate value? (Although priceless to me) Thanks for the help

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 125145. This is a 17 foot long, AA (or top) grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, half ribs, a keel, outside stems, two flag poles, a mast seat, and a mast step. It was built between June, 1938 and July, 1941. The original exterior paint color was dark green with a yellow hair line stripe. It shipped on April 26th, 1943 to Ypsilanti, Michigan. A scan of this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at https://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. The information at the link below has a good summary about how to value canoes like this and the classifieds at https://www.woodencanoe.org/classifieds have some similar ones for comparison. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
