New Owner of Old Town Canoe

Walter Hauck

LOVES Wooden Canoes
We would be grateful for help in researching our new canoe purchase
(our very first canoe ever.) It is an Old Town Otca, 16 ft. with serial number
92418-16. Had it out in the for the time last night-- it is a beautiful boat.
I found it a little "tippy" and was a bit nervous because I felt like I was sitting up so high. But it had great maneuverability when my husband took it out alone. Thanks for any help you can give us. Marty

The Old Town canoe with serial number 92418 is a 16 foot long, CS grade, Otca model with red Western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch trim, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between October, 1926 and May, 1927. The original exterior paint color was bright red. It shipped on May 28th, 1927 to New York City. The back side of the card indicates that it may have moved to Senneterre, Quebec in Canada by July, 1977 when there was a previous request for a copy of this record.

Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found by following the links under the attached thumbnail images below. These scans were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if these descriptions don't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with your new purchase.

Benson
