I found this hardware installed in the underside of the outwales on a 1920 Carleton. These were screwed into the outwale approximately every 18 inches or so.

I assume they were installed for some sort of canvas cover or spray deck that may have clipped over these studs. I would appreciate your input. What are they?

No, no slots. Maybe installed as screws, cut off, and eased with a file slightly? Seems like a lot of work.

Yes. That's a lot of work so it must be a "one-off."
