LQC inquiry

Greetings fellow canoe enthusiasts! I am seeking any and all information concerning a MAin Canoe maker called LQC. Thanks in advance - Alec

Here is a listing of Maine canoe builders: http://www.wcha.org/history/maine-list.htm

If you have a canoe with initials stamped into it somewhere, they could be the initials of a previous owner and not the builder. This appears to have been a fairly common thing. We have an "EBW" from Maine, and speculate about who that could have been.

If you post pictures of the LQC canoe, someone among us may be able to help identify it... and maybe that's the builder and I'm way off track... paddling down another path in my EBW...

The Manufacturers Identification code listing at http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic_detail.aspx?id=LQC for LQC indicates that they were the "LEAVITT QUALITY CORP" in Hampden Highlands, Maine and went "Out of Business" as of Monday, December 31, 1990. Their phone number was 207-234-2341 and this is currently listed for James A. Leavitt who might be able to offer more information. Please reply here if you find out when and where they were building canoes so this information can be added to the list at http://www.wcha.org/history/maine-list.htm here. Thanks,

Benson

Lqc

Yeeeeears ago when I was just getting interested in wooden canoes, and during an annual vacation to Peaks Island, I drove up to meat Rolland Thurlow, and on the way I stopped to see Jim Leavitt's shop. He was building cedar rib and plank canoes and at that time he was fiber-glassing them. I have one of his brochures around here somewhere. By the time I find it you will probably get some first hand info, but if I find it I'll post it.

Thank you all for your feedback. I do not have a canoe by that maker - just seeking info. Again thanks and Merry Christmas - Alec
