Length of keel

Thanks to everyone who helped me with keel dimensins - I have an 18' piece fabricated with the proper height, widths and cove. I forgot to ask - how long should the keel be? I am not sure where it ends exactly. Can anybody tell me? I have a 1929 Old Town 17' Sponson canoe. I will be putting on metal stem bands, if that makes a difference. If anyone has a 17' canoe, can you measure the keel length for me? Thanks.

The keel extends to a bit beyond the point where the hull starts to curve up to the stem profile. A bit hard to explain, without access to pictures, but your goal is to have the taper of the keel match with the curvature of the stem.
