Introduction & looking for supplies

Hi,

My name is Ken. I am the Montreal area of Quebec. I have a 16 foot Gates cedar canvas canoe, that I want to recover. The boat is in good shape overall, just one plank has a dent in it that cracked it. About 18" to replace. The canvas is shot though.

I am looking for a supplier of the materials required to recover this canoe. The canvas, tacks, filler & paint. Does anybody know of someone in the Montreal area that I could purchase these things from.

Thanks in advance.

Ken

Welcome! You'll find this is a great place to post questions as they come up during your restoration.

As far as supplies & materials, if you go to the WCHA home page, in the left margin, you'll find two things that will be of great interest: "Builders & Suppliers Directory" and "Local Chapters". Just what you need!

Oh, and post pictures, too... we like pictures!

Hi,

I did take a look through the directory, and there is no one listed for Quebec. I was hoping that someone on here knew of place to pick things up locally.

Thanks

KEn

Welcome, Ken.
Unfortunately, the Builder's and Suppliers Directory
http://www.wcha.org/buildsupply/
doesn't list anyone in Quebec who sell wood/canvas canoe stuff.

There are suppliers in New Hampshire and Vermont. But you could also purchase everything you need and learn how to recanvas your canoe at the upcoming Annual Assembly in less than a month's time, just south of the border in the Adirondacks (Paul Smith's College). More info available here; http://www.wcha.org/annual-assembly/

You can try Hugh Stewart at Headwaters canoes in Wakefield QC north of Ottawa. He builds on some original Chestnut forms he bought when the factory closed as well as some he's recently built. I think he sells supplies. Website is http://headwaterscanoes.ca/
