how to identify an old canoe?

I have and old wooden and canvas canoe that I got from a friend when we were in our 20s. We painted the outside and now it is all cracked.
It's been hanging in my garage for over 20 years and not used.
How do I determine its age and maker? I see a serial number stamped into the wood near one end. It also has a hole in the front deck for a mast?

Measure length and width. Note shape of the decks. Go to Dan Miller's Dragonfly identification pages and make comparisons http://dragonflycanoe.com/wood-canoe-identification-guide/
Take photos of stem profile, deck, gunwale, seat and thwart construction and mounting, and post them along with any serial number you can find. IDing UFOs can be fun. Tom McCloud
