Help with canoe ID - Old Town

Hi - I'm looking for info on my grandfather's Old Town canoe - which I believe originally had a canvas bottom, and was fiberglassed 40 years ago. My best guess at the ID number is 138245 16. I believe the first number is a "1" although it sure looks like a capital "I".

Thanks,
Sian

Sain,

If your serial number is correct, it appears that your boat is a 1944 16' Yankee in AA grade, with mahogany seats, decks, thwarts and open gunwales. It was painted Dark Green. A floor rack was also ordered. It was delivered to Millinocket Maine in May of 1944.

Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. Please join WCHA or make a tax deductable contribution so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join. If you are already a WCHA member, THANK YOU!

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Mike - that's the right canoe I think

Hi Mike -
My grandfather lived in Millinocket and the canoe is stored there under our camp. I think it's the right one. Thank you so much,
Sian
