I noticed on the chestnut page of dragonfly one of the charicteristics of their canoes is that they are copper-fastened. What does this mean??

It simply means that the tacks fastening the planking to the ribs are likely to be copper rather than the usual brass. Copper tacks are often found in the earliest canoes by many builders, including Old Town.
