Good afternoon...a gentleman owning a Chipewyan made 14 units prior to mine recommended your site to look up a build sheet. I'd be thrilled if you could do same for 212702. Thank you!

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 212702 is a 17 foot long Chipewyan Tripper model with aluminum inserts in the rails that weighed 77 pounds. It was built in March, 1976. The original exterior color was red. It shipped on March 22nd, 1976 to Boston, Massachusetts. The back side of this scan shows that there were some skin breaks and lines inside the hull. Scans of both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that this canoe could have another number or manufacturer if the description doesn't match. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

This is amazing, and yes, all details match my canoe! I purchased it from the Helping Hands of America in Wrentham, MA and it was recently donated to them for the benefit of the Coastline Elderly Services Meals on Wheels program by a 64 year-old resident of Falmouth, MA. I grew up paddling a 1979 Tripper purchased new by my father and which is still in the family...many fond memories paddling throughout the Hockomock Swamp with my loyal yellow lab sidekick "Rocky" by my side. Thanks again for researching this...what a treat!
