Canvased Saturday

Curious about Wooden Canoes
Got the canvas on my canoe Saturday and applied the filler Sunday after Church. Can I finish sanding the inside while the filler cures or do I need to leave it alone for 4-6 weeks?
Thanks for all Y'alls help!

Also made these simple stretchers. You run the canvas through them and turn them a couple of times.

You run the risk of disturbing the filler coat when sanding and handling the canoe. Typically the interior is completely sanded and finished before canvassing. I'd shelve it for a mimimum of four weeks if I were you.

I'm with Dave O. I'd wait till it cures. Work on seats, outwales or paddles or something.

The canvas clamps are way cool!

Great work. I'm I just came in from finishing the canvas at the stems on my canoe. Next step is filler.

One question? I stapled the canvas with stainless steel staples at each rib, and there is a small pucker between each staple. I think this is normal, but do I need to place a staple in between the ones I already have? Ribs are 4" on center. What did you do?
