Canvas Canoe - Plans for a Beginner

Enthusiastic about Wooden Canoes
I'm about 2/3 the way through building my first stripper - used plans + Canoecraft from Bearmountain. Wondering if there is something similar for canvas & wood canoes. Can anyone suggest a source?

Rollin Thurlow, Northwoods Canoe Company, has other plans than the one shown in the book Dan recommends (which is considered the "bible" of canoe building and restoration), and Alex Comb of Stewart River Boat Works has several plans. Go to the Home Page above, and from there check our Builder and Supplier Directory.

There are also two article in back issues of Wooden Canoe Magazine (available through our online store) about building one-off canoes -- Number 7 (Summer 1981) and Number 134 (April 2006).

Jerry Stelmok's Building the Maine Guide Canoe is also a useful source for building technique, and Jerry notes in his appendix that Atwood Manley's Rushton and His Times and David Hazan's The Stripper's Guide to Canoe Building, 3d ed. both contain plans that are not for woood-canvas canoes per se, but many boats in both are adaptable for wood-canvas construction.
