Hey guys,
Hoping you can help me.
I just acquired a beautiful antique OLD TOWN canoe... I just have no idea HOW old it is.
It wears 182030 11 on its stem, and a more modern looking stamp on the outside of the stern XTC82030M73L (kind of confused by that last detail...)
Please see photos, attached.
Any direction you can point me?
Thanks!
-j.

Congratulations, the Old Town with serial number 182030 is an 11 foot long light weight model with a keel, two painter rings, a full length stem band along the entire keel, and a floor rack. It was built between November, 1968 and July, 1973. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped on July 24th, 1973 to Riverside, Conn. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the first attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match your canoe. The longer code on the starboard stern is the hull identification number. The page at http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.htm has more details about how to interpret these numbers. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
