Birchbark canoe appraisal

Paul Miller

Canoe Nut
Hi,

I have a friend who donated a great birchbark canoe to a local museum and now needs an appraisal for tax purposes. The museum he gave it to said they were not qualified to give an appraisal.

I will have photos to post later today. The canoe is about 80 or 90 years old and in very good condition. The canoe has been in the owners family for 40 years. I have seen this canoe in person at a boat show in Lake Geneva, WI. where I took the pictures.

I would appreciate any assistance provided.

Thanks,

Paul

I'd be glad to help you out Paul once the pictures come up. It's great to see the old bark canoes from the bygone era.

Here are the pictures of the canoe.

I have included a picture of the canoe next to a 17' Max Anderrson for a comparison of size, as I'm not sure how long the birchbark canoe is, but I could find out.

I doubt the pieces wrapped around the top of the stems is original, but the rest of it look very good.

Thanks for the help,

Paul
