Michigan Canoe Nut
Sorry if this might be a repeat, but this is a really cool canoe!!!!!! Its a Pa-Hak-Ha model from the Detroit River Canoe Works. Different from the Detroit Canoe Company? Its owned by Ron Cell.

Way cool! Attached is an ad from 1906. Its a tidbit of data about a little known company.

Hope Kathy gets better soon, too.

Radical high point stems seem to have been very popular in the Belle Isle area as shown in the old postcards attached below. I also hope that Kathy gets better soon!

To all,
Kathryn came home today but it might be a couple of days before she is back on the computer. I am on her computer because mine is not letting me on.
Thanks for all the good wishes.

Belle Isle canoe trim

Anyone know what those wavy lines are on the sides of some Belle Isle canoes in Benson's message? Looks like rope, but I'm not sure. What's the purpose---decorative or functional?

I believe that these lines of rope were primarily used for fenders and hand holds when rafting up as Chris mentioned. They may also have been decorative since people in this area loved to enhance their canoes in various ways as shown at http://forums.wcha.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=1368&d=1143936046 and below.
