Hi All,

This is attempt #2 to build Rollin's Whisper. The first try I tried to use Western Red cedar for the planking, and it was a no go. I ordered Northern White cedar and it was a walk in the park. I hope to have it ready for canvas next weekend. I just pulled it off the form about 20 minutes ago. (9/11/2009 at 2:15 pacific time). It is 9'8" long and weighs 20 pounds as is.

Hullo,

It is about 36" or so. Fat lil thing! I am building it for my father who likes to stand up when he flycasts.

Uh oh, I'm about to replank over half a Guide that was originally done in Western Red. I've already milled the red. Let me guess - too brittle and it kept splitting? This should be fun...

Nice boat btw, but it might be a little tricky to stand and cast out of!

Hi Steve,

For a guide, WRC should be OK. The curves aren't as accentuated as they are on this portly little gal. Just make sure you predrill, and use plenty of boiling water!
