Resently have been working with a referbished ??? 1961 26ft Voyager cedar canvas canoe built by the Chestnut Canoe Company . It has just been recanvased . After two weeks of use the seat support bar has started to separate from the hull . It seems that the screws have been pulling out . So my question is what would be the best way to reconnect it without removing the canvas if possible .:confused:Any input would be appreciated .

Thanks Paul

Not an easy fix. I'd think about scraping the paint or varnish off the ribs directly below the loosened strip and, using epoxy, gluing another strip just below the existing one.

Hi Paul,
If the screws are pulling out of the seat support bar, you could take the seat off so you have good access to the bar. Remove the bar completely. Then clean the screws that are exposed and come loose and epoxy the bar to the screws.

Even if you had to make a new bar and drill holes to match the pattern on the old seat bar and epoxy it to the exposed screws, you would not have to worry about touching your new canvas.

Hope that helps
Larry
