Any information on a 18' Old Town serial # 57908 would be greatly appreciated

Thank You

The Old Town canoe with serial number 57908 is a 17 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Otca model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, twenty inch birch decks, birch thwarts, and birch seats. It was built between December, 1919 and March, 1920. The original exterior paint color was light green with a three inch maroon stripe next to the gunwales. It shipped on March 4th, 1920 to Grand Rapids, Michigan. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match your canoe. Has the original paint design been preserved and can you attach some pictures here? Can you confirm the actual overall length in a straight line? Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Thanks,

Benson

Appreciate the info, friend is restoring this. Has been in the same family since the 40's. I purchased and restored their 15' OT a number of years ago.
I am a newer member and enjoy the forum and the magazine
