Curious about Wooden Canoes
I'm assuming late thirties but am curious the specifics of the build.
Thank you for helping a noobie WCHA member.
It's for sale semi local to me.
Perhaps someone will save me from my wife lol.

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 119721 is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Otca model with open mahogany gunwales, twenty inch mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, a keel, a floor rack, and a bang plate along the full length of the keel. It was built between November, 1936 and July, 1937. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on June 7th, 1938 to Warrensburg, New York. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck,

Benson

Bigredmf, in the last few years I go the bug, the canoes kept multiplying, and once I put a circa 1913 Morris in the living room my better half agreed that I could build a shop. I must admit she saw right through the whole scheme but knew I needed a hobby and here we are.

Thanks Todd, I have a large shop but sadly it's stuffed full of my other hobby which is collecting Coleman lanterns and lamps. It's roughly 1100 square feet of chaos currently. These two hobbies can coexist with a bit more organization on my part lol.
