Kennebec B & C canvas/wood motorboat

The Kennebec boat with serial number 30214 is an 15.5 foot long Kennebec Joy-Boy model as shown on page 142 of volume three in the Kennebec ledgers. It was planked by Cameron on February 19th, 1927. The canvas covering was put on by Roy on the same day. Lockard put on the sponsons on the same day. Grant put on the first filler coat on the same day and the second filler coat on February 26th, 1927. The rails were installed by Mansell on March 5th, 1927. The original color was "stock" which was a red hull with a green stripe on the sponsons. It shipped to location "27-1016" on July 29th, 1927. This location is probably an order number but we don't currently have enough information to identify it.

The scans of these build records can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below. These original Kennebec records are reproduced through the courtesy of the Maine State Museum.

The microfilms and scans of these records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) as you probably know well. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

More information about the Kennebec models can be found in the Kennebec catalogs contained on the Historic Wood Canoe and Boat Company Catalog Collection CD available from http://merchandise.wcha.org/ and http://www.dragonflycanoe.com/cdrom.htm on the web.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your boat. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
