Another UFO!

Blue Viking

Wooden Canoe Maniac
Came across a canoe last weekend stamped on the deck was "Stalek Canoe Co." of Canada...other than makeshift repairs, it was on fair shape. very narrow ribs, widely spaced. Couldnt find any serial #'s though! Anyone ever heard of this company?

Stalek canoe

Two google references - first one has numerous pictures.

I have been given a 12' Stalek cedar stripped canoe, which I've patched. Anyone know anything further about them? Google seems to turn up nothing at all.

Googling "Richard Guy Briggs canoe" brings you to http://tricolour.net/gtvs6.html which has photos of a canoe if you scroll down a bit. Don't know if this is any help. Googling "Bow and Stern - March 1979" gets to a trip report with a trip taken in a Stalek canoe -- but no information about the canoe or its builder.

I saw that thread, but I was interested in the history of the company. It's a beautiful canoe, and very light. Although it came with three paddles, I have an itch to make a cherry / maple laminate paddle.
