Old Town #110926

The Canoeist
Just returned from adopting and saving Old Town #110926, 17'.
We would be interested in the build record for this canoe.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 110926 is a 17 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Otca model with red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany seats, and a keel. It was built between 1931 and 1932. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on April 5th, 1932 to Chicago, Illinois.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with your restoration decisions.

Benson

I always find it interesting to put these boats in an historical perspective. This is an AA grade (top end) canoe from what may have been the peak of the Great Depression. WOW...

Paul,
That is a great way to think about the canoe that I had not thought of ~ the Great Depression, definitely WOW!
Right now it is covered in fiberglass, but Rob thinks it won't be too tough to take off. We'll tackle that job this summer when we can work outside on it. We are very excited about this one as it is in great shape with very little rot.
