Have had an 18 foot Old Town in loft of garage for over 30 years serial number 148185 18. What information is available?

The Old Town canoe with serial number 148185 is an 18 foot long, AA (or top) grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, a keel, a floor rack, sponsons, bilge keels, bang plates along all keels, a rudder, rub rails, a mast seat, and a mast step. It was built between April and June, 1947. The original exterior paint color was similar to the one shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design04.gif which was known as the design number 4. It shipped on July 1st, 1947 to Ishpeming, Michigan. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join, or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Please attach a picture if the original design can still be seen. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Thanks,

Benson
