I have set to work fixing up an old canoe that has been hanging in our garage for about 15 years. What I have been told is that it is an 18 foot Old Town Guide. Could I please have this verified or have any additional information about my canoe? The serial number is 118083.
Thanks,
Peter

The Old Town canoe with serial number 118083 is a 18 foot long, GS grade, Guide model with open spruce gunwales and it looks like oak decks, thwarts, seats and a keel. It was built between October, 1936 and May, 1937. The original exterior paint color was green. It shipped on May 11th, 1937 to the North Star Camp in Hackensack, Minn. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
