Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hello, Now that the new year is here I have gone back to the garage and back to my winter project. I am in the process of stripping the varnish from my 38 OT hw sponsoned canoe. The seats are hand canined mahoghany I am going to strip the varnish, sand, and oil the frames. Do I then revarnish and recane or recane and varnish both the seats and the cane to seal the new came? Thanks Jon K.

If you search the forum, you'll find there are differing opinions on whether you varnish the cane or not... I varnished the seat, and then caned it, due to others' advice here. I wsa thinking that if it needs to get re-caned, at least the old cane won't be stuck to the frame.

Thanks for the replys looking at the old cane It does't appear to be varnished so maybe I will leave it natural Jon K.
