Spruce paddle making

ReedLeb

Too many canoes
I was given a spruce paddle blank (already roughed out) Otter tail style, to finish. The blade is about 25" long, 5" wide, and 62" OAL. All my other paddles are hardwood, or chuncky old Old Town spruce. I'm thinking a lighter weight paddle for flat water, for someone of modest size and strength.
I'm working on the blade and looking for input on blade thickness or cross section suggestions. Thanks.

Pick up a book about making your own paddle, especially the one written by Graham Warren and David Gidmark. There's a lot of great information in there, including dimensions. I don't have mine handy...

Thanks Paul, I have had that book on order for a about a week now, looking forward to seeing what it has to say.
