OldTown 172479 is an 18 foot Otca model canoe finished from September 1962 to April 1963. It had a keel and was originally painted with OT design number 4-- a favorite, classic design consisting of red and blue triangles along the gunwales, on a white backgroud, often with a medallion in the center of the bow or stern. I can add a picture when I get to my other computer. The canoe was originally shipped April 29, 1963, to Lexington, Missouri.
The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that anyone reading this will join or renew membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.
It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
Here's Old Town design #4. Several members have re-created this design and if you're interested in knowing the details, I'm sure you'll get the information you need to make the ol' girl like new again.
