Serial number search, Old Town 18' canoe

New Member
Hello, I own Old Town 18' canoe serial # 128392 which is restored and in daily use here on Lake Tahoe. The number is a bit vague, on the other end it looks a bit like 128322.... but I think I am correct with the first number. I would appreciate any info you can give me on its build history, thank you in advance---

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 128322 is 16 feet long so that isn't a good match. The one with 128392 is an 18 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Otca model with open spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch thwarts, birch seats, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between November, 1939 and May, 1940. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on June 13th, 1940 to Camden, New Jersey. The back side of the scan indicates that the paint had blistered and references a letter from July 9th, 1940. Scans showing all of this build records can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See to learn more about the WCHA and to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
