Peterborough Canoe

I just purchased a 13.5 foot Peterborough Canoe that the owner thinks is from 1952. I found the serial number on the stem located at the stern and it looks like 2078 (see attached image) although the 8 also looks like a backwards three and the 2 looks like a different stamp than the other numbers. This serial number was not listed on the Wooden Canoe Museum website. Any help that could be provided would be most appreciated.

You bought a nice little canoe.
Sadly, none of the PeterNut canoes are easily dated. Unlike Old Town and several other builders, there are no records to help identify the age of these hulls.
By looking at build quality, dimensions, the numbers it is possible to generalize and suggest a canoe dates "from the 50's" or beyond, but not a specific year.
If you estimate the age at 74 years through provenance, likely that is as close as you will get.
