Old Town Runabout S/N

Curious about Wooden Canoes
I recently acquired a 16' Old Town runabout that I am planning to restore. The serial number is 16 171421. I would greatly appreciate any information available for this boat.

Hi,

Your boat is a 16 foot lapstrake, originally painted white and equipped with a fisherman's seat. It was built in 1961 and sold to Peabody Boat Supply in Peabody, MA.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA andhttp://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe.

Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thanks again Dan. I was told that this boat spent most of its life in the Belgrade Lakes so it is interesting to see that it came up from MA. Any idea what a fisherman's seat is? I'm not sure that it is still in the boat but I'd like to recreate it.

I looked through the 1961 catalog and didn't see an extra "fisherman's seat". One of the more knowledgeable forum members will hopefully respond.
